Consultant Profile
Mr. Scott Brooks is an Internet / Intranet Site Specialist, Senior Webmaster, Senior Web Developer and Senior Programmer specializing in projects requiring conversion of web content from one format or standard to another. In particular, Scott is the main resource assigned to the life cycle maintenance of a series of custom developed tools that Imatics begun using in 1999 to assist in conversion projects - especially for Federal Government clients. In 2013-2014 these tools have been adapted for Web Experience Toolkit (WET), for the WET3 series in XHTML and now WET4 in HTML5 and have been applied to site level conversion of various sites. In 2015/2016, these same tools are now adapted for support of the WRI / canada.ca / AEM solution platform. Scott is regularly assigned for on-going as and when required site maintenance in addition to projects where the task authorization process is used. Scott has been performing work on Web projects since 1999.

Description: The Web Renewal Initiative (WRI) is a set of standards, guidelines procedures and materials that client department websites are expected to use and adhere to. The standards cover accessibility, usability and interoperability. The application of the standards and guidelines involves the coding and integration of standard templates, style sheets and supporting code for charts, menus and other components, The eventual migration to the AEM / canada.ca platform is the planned resolution of this initiative. Because our involvement with several websites is comprehensive, this means that the tasks and activities relating to WRI are not a separate project, but are instead incorporated ceaselessly into the on-going managing of the client website. This resume item is set-up to extract and list various WRI deliverable this resource has been responsible for on various client websites.
Task:
Website Inventory - A website inventory has been created generally once each year for each of the websites where on-going maintenance has been provided - PPSC, SIRC, MPCC and MGERC. This inventory is then used for different reasons. The main reason has been to support the sampling algorithm used to perform the WCAG 2.0 site assessment done in 2012.2013, and 2014
ROT (Redundant Outdated Trivial) Review. Departments have been asked to undertake review of their website content in order to reduce the inventory of pages. These has two purposes. 1) improve the content and user experience, and 2) reduce the content inventory in order to reduce the effort in complying with other requirements. Because websites we manage are already 100% compliant with applicable standards, and also because they are well structured, we are able to comply with changing standards on a site wide basis. The effort to comply is not dependant on the number of pages since we apply the changes on a site wide basis. This means there is little benefit to reducing the number of pages for objective 2) on sites we manage. Our efforts in this area have generally been related to the correct coding of Archived content and the proper inclusion of this content in the navigation of the website. As well, we remove any pages or content as instructed by our clients. Scott has done this for PPSC, SIRC, MPCC and MGERC.
Creating performance measurement reports based on website analytics (using web analytics applications such as Webtrends, Piwik, Google Analytics or Urchin to prepare analyses on the effectiveness of websites and experience providing web analytics data and advice to stakeholders and management). - Scott has had limited involvement with this work. Generally, we do not have direct access to client web traffic data on government websites.
Creation of institutional profile page - Scott created the Institutional Profile page for MGERC and SIRC (in progress). These pages are hosted on the canada.ca website. Also, we have been trained by the Principle Publisher and have accounts and direct access to the canada.ca website using AEM to make updates to this and all other site pages hosted on canada.ca.
Design and Develop New Pgaes - Under the WRI, a set of standards and guidelines applies that forms the basis for the design and development of websites. Also tools and materials are provided in the form of WET templates, and standardized classes especially for content elements such as chart and figures. For each of the clients mentions - PPSC, SIRC, MGERC, MPCC, SWC, PC and CIHR, these standards, guidelines, templates and materials have been used to develop pages and entire sites for deployment.
Onboarding plan - A careful plan is needed for the conversion of a website into the WET3, WET4 or canada.ca template on AEM, Scott has done this for each of the 4 clients. What this entails is reviewing the TBS provided templates, and in particular the style sheets and classes. IN the case of migration to canada.ca / AEM, there are limitations and restrictions in the onboarding process that need to be considered and understood. A plan is created for the application of the template and classes to the existing content. Then a dry run of the process is attempted. Deficiencies in the process are observed, and the process is improved. This is done iteratively until the site conversion meets the quality objective - 100%. Scott has done this for PPSC, SIRC, MPCC and MGERC. |
